How did this team not win the World Cup in 1990?
Managed by the great Sir Bobby Robson – this starting 11 consisted of Peter Shilton, Paul Parker, Terry Butcher, Mark Wright, Chris Waddle, Paul Gascoigne, Des Walker, Stuart Pearce, Gary Lineker, John Barnes and Captain Marvel Bryan Robson
It was the start of a turnaround in the reputation of football in England, gone were the dark days of the 1980s and in was coming a positive era of great talent and optimism
England looked incredibly likely to win their first World Cup since 1966 and it marked only the second time the national team made it to a semi-final since the days of Sir Alf Ramsey (since that day it has only happened once since with Gareth Southgates team in 2018)
Bryan Robson is an icon of English Football. A tough captain who lead his team by example and wasn’t afraid to ‘get stuck in’ in the tradition of a classic English Footballer.
