David James established himself as one of England’s brightest goalkeepers whilst at Watford, resulting in a transfer to Liverpool when he was only 21 years old. James went on to make 277 appearances for Liverpool, keeping 72 clean sheets in the Premier League during this time. He later featured in the Premier League for Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City and Portsmouth.
He has the fourth most appearances in the Premier League having played in 572 matches, as well as holding the record for most Premier League clean sheets at 169 before Peter Cech surpassed his record. In 2008 David James kept a clean sheet in the FA Cup Final helping Portsmouth to beat Cardiff 1-0, securing Portsmouth’s second ever FA Cup and qualification to the 2008-2009 EUFA Cup.
